The River hotel Of Southport
Have you learned that secret from the River; that there is no such thing as time? Coastal Living Magazine has named Southport “America’s happiest seaside town”.
The RIVER HOTEL of SOUTHPORT boasts views of the Oak Island and Bald Head Island lighthouses. As you gaze out, mesmerized, you’ll see the River come alive with boats under sail, ferries, and massive container ships journeying from distance shores. Stroll or throw out a line from our 250 foot deep water fishing pier. It’s some of the best fishing on the Cape Fear River. Southport is also home to The US Open Mackerel Tournament.
Our rooms are beautifully appointed with all the conveniences; a stocked galley kitchen with full refrigerator and dishwasher, coffee maker, two queen-size beds or a generous king, a dining and desk area, and amazing views from your private balcony. We also offer free Wi-Fi.
Have you dreamed of a wedding or special event on the water? Let us help you plan and host your memorable moments under a tent, or simply at the waters edge with cocktails served around the pool lit with candles.
You’re a short stroll from the Village and it’s charming shops, galleries, and Bistro culture. Southport comes alive with festivals, the open-air market on Wednesdays, and the spectacular 4th of July celebration. Visit the Maritime Museum as it navigates the area waterways with exhibits on piracy, shipwrecks and hurricanes. Sunsets are spectacular here, especially viewed from a sunset cruise along the Intracoastal and Cape Fear River. You can also hop on the ferry to Fort Fisher to see historical Fort Johnston, and drop into the NC Aquarium exhibiting the area’s rich aquatic life. There’s a little something for everyone.
Experience one of several championship golf courses one of which is only accessible by boat! Southport is a quaint little seaport village full of interesting shops and restaurants. Southern Living Magazine named Southport as one of the top five small towns in the south for 2018. Over three hundred Hollywood movies and tv shows were filmed in and around Southport and the setting for best selling books and novels.
Rent a bicycle or golf cart and explore places like the local maritime museum where you will see exhibits like items from Blackbeard's pirate ship Queen Anne's Revenge. A few blocks from the hotel ferries await to take you to places like Baldhead Island where cars are not allowed. A great place to have lunch and climb Old Baldy that protected the mouth of the Cape Fear coast from 1817 until 1958. Other ferries will take you and your car on a sea adventure to connect with the natural ocean world of the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher the last Confederate Fort to fall during America's bloodiest war. At the aquarium feel the smooth skin of a stingray as it glides by. Climb along adventure reef and talk to a diver that swims the depths with eels and sharks. A wonderful place of nautical adventure for all ages.
